The protein encoded by this gene is a membrane-bound arginine/lysine carboxypeptidase. Its expression is associated with monocyte to macrophage differentiation. This encoded protein contains hydrophobic regions at the amino and carboxy termini and has 6 potential asparagine-linked glycosylation sites. The active site residues of carboxypeptidases A and B are conserved in this protein. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
Gene Symbol : CPM
Gene Name : Carboxypeptidase M
Chromosome : CHR 12: 689,632,39-688,421,99
Locus : 12q15
This gene encodes a member of a family of secreted and transmembrane proteins. The orthologous gene in mouse functions downstream of smoothened and rab23 to modulate hedgehog signal transduction. This protein is a component of the tectonic-like complex, which forms a barrier between the ciliary axoneme and the basal body. A mutation in this gene was found in a family with Joubert syndrome-13. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2016]
