This gene encodes the third discovered human homologue of the Drosophilia melanogaster type I membrane protein notch. In Drosophilia, notch interaction with its cell-bound ligands (delta, serrate) establishes an intercellular signalling pathway that plays a key role in neural development. Homologues of the notch-ligands have also been identified in human, but precise interactions between these ligands and the human notch homologues remains to be determined. Mutations in NOTCH3 have been identified as the underlying cause of cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL). Gene Symbol : NOTCH3
Gene Name : Notch 3
Chromosome : CHR 19: 152,009,80-151,596,32
Locus : 19p13.12
The protein encoded by this gene is a kininase that uses zinc as a cofactor. The encoded oligopeptidase cleaves cytosolic peptides, making them unavailable for display on antigen-presenting cells. This protein also cleaves neuropeptides under 20 aa in length and can degrade beta-amyloid precursor protein to amyloidogenic peptides. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2015]
Gene Symbol : THOP1
Gene Name : Thimet oligopeptidase 1
Chromosome : CHR 19: 278,545,9-281,360,3
Locus : 19p13.3
