The modification of proteins with ubiquitin is an important cellular mechanism for targeting abnormal or short-lived proteins for degradation. Ubiquitination involves at least three classes of enzymes: ubiquitin-activating enzymes, or E1s, ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes, or E2s, and ubiquitin-protein ligases, or E3s. This gene encodes a member of the E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family. The encoded protein sequence is 100% identical to the mouse homolog and 98% identical to the frog and zebrafish homologs. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene and they encode distinct isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2011]
Gene Symbol : UBE2H
Gene Name : Ubiquitin conjugating enzyme E2 H
Chromosome : CHR 7: 129,952,959-129,830,731
Locus : 7q32.2
This gene encodes an F-box-containing protein that is a component of an SCF-type E3 ubiquitin ligase complex that regulates the onset of cell division. The G2/M transition in the cell cycle requires the interaction of the proteins cyclin B1 and cyclin-dependent kinase 1. The activated ubiquitin ligase complex targets the protein cyclin B1 for degradation, preventing this transition to mitosis. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2013]
Gene Symbol : ZC3HC1
Gene Name : Zinc finger C3HC-type containing 1
Chromosome : CHR 7: 130,051,450-130,018,285
Locus : 7q32.2
