Potassium channels are present in most mammalian cells, where they participate in a wide range of physiologic responses. The protein encoded by this gene is an integral membrane protein and inward-rectifier type potassium channel. The encoded protein has a greater tendency to allow potassium to flow into a cell rather than out of a cell. Eight transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2013]
Gene Symbol : KCNJ15
Gene Name : Potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily J member 15
Chromosome : CHR 21: 382,299,14-383,031,25
Locus : 21q22.13-q22.2
This gene is located in the candidate region for congenital heart disease (CHD) in Down syndrome (DS). It encodes a basic protein that functions as a receptor that promotes insertion of tail-anchored proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. This gene is located at a maternally-methylated differentially methylated region (DMR); however, its transcription may be biallelic, not imprinted. Alternative splicing results in different transcript variants. A pseudogene has been defined on chromosome 4. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2017]
Gene Symbol : WRB
Gene Name : Tryptophan rich basic protein
Chromosome : CHR 21: 393,802,86-393,978,88
Locus : 21q22.2
