Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and help in protein synthesis within the mitochondrion. Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit. They have an estimated 75% protein to rRNA composition compared to prokaryotic ribosomes, where this ratio is reversed. Another difference between mammalian mitoribosomes and prokaryotic ribosomes is that the latter contain a 5S rRNA. Among different species, the proteins comprising the mitoribosome differ greatly in sequence, and sometimes in biochemical properties, which prevents easy recognition by sequence homology. This gene encodes a 28S subunit protein that belongs to the ribosomal protein S10P family. Pseudogenes corresponding to this gene are found on chromosomes 1q, 3p, and 9p. Gene Symbol : MRPS10
Gene Name : Mitochondrial ribosomal protein S10
Chromosome : CHR 6: 422,179,06-422,068,00
Locus : 6p21.1
This gene encodes a member of the karyopherin family that is required for the transport of small RNAs and double-stranded RNA-binding proteins from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. The encoded protein translocates cargo through the nuclear pore complex in a RanGTP-dependent process. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2011]
Gene Symbol : XPO5
Gene Name : Exportin 5
Chromosome : CHR 6: 435,760,74-435,223,29
Locus : 6p21.1
