The cytogenetic location of this gene is 3p21.3, and it is located in a region that is commonly deleted in a variety of malignancies. Down-regulation of this gene has been observed in several human cancers including lung, esophageal, renal tumors, and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. In some cases, reduced expression of this gene in tumor cells is a result of aberrant promoter methylation. Several alternatively spliced transcripts have been observed that contain disrupted coding regions and likely encode nonfunctional proteins.[provided by RefSeq, Mar 2016]
Gene Symbol : DLEC1
Gene Name : Deleted in lung and esophageal cancer 1
Chromosome : CHR 3: 380,385,94-381,227,40
Locus : 3p22.2
The protein encoded by this gene shares 22% sequence identity with Hemophilus influenzae xylulokinase, and even higher identity to other gene products in C.elegans (45%) and yeast (31-35%), which are thought to belong to a family of enzymes that include fucokinase, gluconokinase, glycerokinase and xylulokinase. These proteins play important roles in energy metabolism. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2009]
Gene Symbol : XYLB
Gene Name : Xylulokinase
Chromosome : CHR 3: 383,467,59-384,530,40
Locus : 3p22.2
