This gene encodes the enzyme responsible for RNA editing by site-specific deamination of adenosines. This enzyme destabilizes double-stranded RNA through conversion of adenosine to inosine. Mutations in this gene have been associated with dyschromatosis symmetrica hereditaria. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2010]
Gene Symbol : ADAR
Gene Name : Adenosine deaminase, RNA specific
Chromosome : CHR 1: 154,628,015-154,582,056
Locus : 1q21.3
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the family of P-type cation transport ATPases, and to the subfamily of aminophospholipid-transporting ATPases. The aminophospholipid translocases transport phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylethanolamine from one side of a bilayer to another. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
Gene Symbol : ATP8B2
Gene Name : ATPase phospholipid transporting 8B2
Chromosome : CHR 1: 154,325,540-154,351,306
Locus : 1q21.3
